For our sixth employee spotlight, meet Ashley Sherman. Let’s dive in and learn more about her.

What do you do at our company?
I operate a loader doing snow removal at our DND site in Ottawa. I work with a team of other operators to plow our site and load trucks to haul the snow away.

What has been your favourite project so far?
I have only worked on one project/jobsite and it has been great. The rest of my team really makes it even better to come to work!

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
I generally just enjoy what I do. Best part of the day is getting my hands dirty and playing with all the big toys!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
For most of my childhood and all of my teenage life I wanted to be a paramedic. I studied all through high school to get the classes I needed to go do my course in college. My graduating year in high school I had a tragic car accident which altered my career choices. Now I am learning to operate heavy equipment.

What advice would you give to other women in the industry?
No matter how tough it is, keep on going. You will get there, it’s not going to be easy. I myself have been in the construction industry for seven years and with a little hard work and dedication you can get to where you want to go. Six years ago, I was holding a traffic sign, now with a little perseverance I’ve moved up. You can do anything!

What does a typical day of work look like for you?
As an equipment operator plowing snow the 1st thing is cleaning your car off at home before the snowy drive in. Then when I get to work, I will check out my machine make sure everything looks good, my fluids are good and then I start her up. While waiting for it to warm up, I go over the plan for the day with my team. And once we are all good to go, we head out. As a team we go around helping each other clear roadways and parking lots making snow piles piled high. When all the plowing is done, we drop our plows get our buckets on and load all the snow into the trucks to haul away. When everything is all cleaned up on site we park our machines, clean them up, and head back home for some rest for the next storm.

What are three words you would use to describe Clintar?
Motivational, dedicated, and influential.

What do you find most rewarding/challenging about your role?
The most rewarding thing about my role is there are always things to learn. Everyday I learn something new which helps me achieve my goals more and more. The sky is the limit and I’m ready to get to the stars!

What would you like to be famous for?
I don’t really have a want for fame. I just want to be a female who becomes successful in my trade and encourage other young females to do what ever they want to do. That’s all, nothing too crazy but to help one person be who they want to be is more then enough for me!

What inspires/motivates you?
What motivates me the most on a day to day Is my daughter. I will go to the moon and back to do anything for her. I want her to know that a woman can do anything they want to do! As a female in a “male dominant” industry times are changing and to see more and more young females getting out there inspires me to continue to succeed and push my limits until I reach my goals. Then I will set some new ones.

We hope you enjoyed learning about Ashley Sherman! We can’t wait to connect you to more of our wonderful team – so stay tuned.
