Michelle Lynn – Female Employee Spotlight of September

Employee name: Michelle Lynn
Role at company: Horticultural Technician
Direct quote from the employee: “Work smarter, not harder” by Allen F. Morgenstern

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
Knowing that every day is a new day with more possibilities.

What do you do at our company?
I first started out as an on-site worker and worked my way up to estimator and dispatcher.

What has been your favourite project so far?
As much as COVID has disrupted everyone’s lives on a daily basis, it forces people to think of different solutions to some of the things that we take for granted. I was tasked with figuring out a different way of reaching out to people for new positions. Integrating technology into the company, it is a learning process and there are certainly have been bumps along the way, but I am happy and proud of what we have accomplished so far.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I have been Whitewater rafting 8 times, and every one of those times I never fell out of the boat (even though at least one of the times the whole boat was circling back to one rapid 10 times to try and tip it).

How do you balance your career and your family/personal life?
At times it can be very tough since both my husband and I work together which makes it a lot easier to bring work home with you. There are times where we look at each other and say this weekend is about us, so no work talk (weather permitting of course).

What advice would you give to other women in the industry?
Try something new/different or something that you are opposed to doing, it may open up doors that you would never have considered.

What does a typical day of work look like for you?
Interacting with the staff, checking e-mail, visiting/quoting sites in the summer. In the winter, my day can start with contacting all personnel for an event, trying to get a nap in so that I can be at the office 1-2 hours before the employees to prep for the event.

What are three words you would use to describe Clintar?
Educational, Dynamic, Motivational.

What do you find most rewarding/challenging about your role?
Seeing our employees get excited and taking pictures of and talking about what they have accomplished. Getting great customer feedback.

If given the chance, who would you be for a day?
Mother Teresa, her compassion, knowledge, experience, and lessons she had learned would be truly amazing to be able to get a glimpse into.

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would interview my mother, she passed away when I was young. I would like to talk to her as an adult and be able to appreciate the wonderful person that she was.

What would you like to be famous for?
I don’t think most people strive to become famous, they just strive to be the best that they can be and becoming famous can be a by-product of that success.

What inspires/motivates you?
Helping others, being with others who are enthusiastic about their life and career, great leaders who listen and bring passion, trust, and respect. Working hard and completing a task/job and looking back to see the fantastic outcome.
